Why equine therapy?
Depending on the nature of the desired outcome, the horse can provide mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. The horse can stimulate muscles, foster problem solving and coping skills, teach the importance of empathy and caring for an animal that can not care for itself, foster social skills, as well as teach self-control, confidence, responsibility, assertiveness, and communication skills. The horse also helps build trust! The ability to learn and grow is ever present for each person working with horses, and easily explains why the use of horses is growing and gaining popularity across the country.
Because horses have distinct personalities and moods (much like humans), working with a variety of horses helps build skills since what works with one horse will not necessarily work with another. Further, horses are a lot of WORK and caring for them, training them, riding them, and even working around them requires physical and mental work that does not always provide instant gratification.
